K-IntheHouse asked me to stop by ShanKri-la and review it for him. I'm not sure if he wanted it to be private or public, but I chose public. Mind you, this is not a comprehensive review — just a few things I looked for and noticed.
Layout. The theme looks decent enough. There is one odd thing that stands out. He has a link for "blog" on the navigation menu. This gives the impression that that there's more than a blog here (like maybe a forum or other external features). If there isn't, "Home" would be more descriptive. I know a lot of people don't like having a "home" link on their pages because it looks like something from the early days of the Internet. I hesitated before adding one to my own theme. All of us should ignore our own dislikes and use that link — it serves a specific purpose and that purpose is to get back to the root, or beginning, of your website.
Posting frequency. Like my own first few months, his blog doesn't have that many posts for that period of time but it appears to be picking up steam. This is a critical point in the life of his blog. I made it a point to leave a comment. Positive or even negative feedback is crucial for both him and his new regular readers. He has more readers to his feeds than I do, so the potential to be a fantastic and popular blog is there.
I noticed that his blog is accessible both with and without the "www." prefix and it doesn't change from one to the other in different places. From an SEO standpoint, he may want to consider the plugin I mentioned or even attacking his own .htaccess file (unless he's using Windows hosting). That's a choice he'll have to make for himself.
I like the theme and some of the things that are put in the footer instead of the sidebars. It's the perfect place for third-party widgets that might slow the blog down. I don't agree with navigation links being all the way down there, though, because of lot of people never make it to the bottom of a page.
His articles are well-written and use good spelling, punctuation, and grammar. This is indicative of an author who cares to present the best possible content to his readers in a way that's easy to read. You'd be surprised at how many well-known blogs there are that don't put this kind of effort into each and every post.
Keep up the good work! I'm blogrolling this blog and adding it to my feed reader.
