It's time for another look at the consequences of my super-duper, patent-pending, and tastes great with less filling meanderings. Some of my new Technorati fans and blog commenters are the target of today's…

Blog Drive-Bys

Mark wrote a very thorough article on two sides of an issue at An American Peyote Scribble. Should an amateur photographer attempt to go professional? If not for the money, why would you want to do that? Artistic expression? Artistic expression doesn't put food on the table.

Steve at cymru66 pondered over the disappearance and reappearance of ranks on Technorati. I pointed out that the "fans" link didn't work when I asked What Happened to the Technorati Fans? They reappeared after about a week, but I didn't even notice my rank had been missing until I read Steve's post. It's back too and better than ever.

I think I stumbled onto one of a hardcore gamer's blogs when I went to Opinion Minions. Wanda has six blogs and half of them have something to do with "The Sims"! I'm just kidding, Wanda. You wouldn't have time for even one blog if you were a hardcore gamer.

Walter wrote a pretty good list of tips for saving energy (and trimming the fat from your electric bill) at Inklings - The Copywriters Blog. I don't have a problem following most of the tips for two reasons: 1) I have a laptop with an LCD display and 2) The local electric company shuts my power off so often, I don't get a choice! I really appreciated his very, very subtle jab at Al Gore - and I almost missed it.

Sue listed some add-ons for Firefox and Flock in her blogging toolbox at Sueblimely - Discovering Blogging. The first extension on her list looks like something I'll probably be able to use because it might save me a bit of time when I'm trying to tweak something on my blog. I could have used it last night when I screwed up a line three times (on the server) before getting it right.

One of the first commenters on my blog was Corey (aka MrCorey) at Another Opinion Among Many. He always writes things that seem to amuse my feeble mind. His latest Oh deer! entry, as a follow up to Right in Front of You, was interesting to me for some reason. I must be easy.

If you can get past the swearing, you'll see that Clare (Clarissa) is a very, very angry monkey whose hobbies include making people angry, avoiding the authorities, and blogging her rear-end off. I enjoy a good rant now and then.

He probably speaks English as good as I do, but Ederic of ederic@cyberspace writes in Tagalog (one of the Filipino languages). Luckily, I could read most of what he wrote about the Palm Foleo. It looks like a mini-laptop but does a whole lot more, including being compatible with the other Palm products (naturally). The operating system is Linux! It's too bad my fat fingers wouldn't be able to use something like this. I have a hard enough time with the keyboard on my laptop!

One of Madeleine Kane's blogs is her Mad Kane's Humor Blog. If you like limericks, this is the place to go. She writes a lot of them. It's not the only humor she includes, but it's the stuff I like to read on her blog. Not too deep and not too time-consuming, just the way I like it. I'll be honest. I haven't read her blog in at least a month and it's not because I didn't want to. I forgot to add it to my feed reader!

Since I'm purposely going through my comments to highlight the blogs of those who've commented on my blog, it wouldn't be fair to skip any, regardless of how recent I wrote about them. Goldcoaster was another of my early commenters after I linked to his blog through my "Visited Links" posts. I won't be doing those kinds of posts anymore — there's not enough relative content in a list of links to be of value to the link recipient. Anyway, I just read his article on "Cancelling or Canceling". It appears the Windows Vista error messages use American English regardless of what version of English you set it up for. Another strike against Vista!

Hermie's One Day at a Time is another Filipino blog I try to keep up with. It's not hard for his, really, because he doesn't post daily. He just wrote about roaming on the "Smart Network" (cell phone service). He writes in English, so it isn't difficult to read like many other Filipino blogs I've come across.

Going back through my comments served another purpose: Fixing links that have changed since the person commented that time. John (aka MacBros) switched to a self-hosted blog some time ago and I've been editing the links in his comments to point to the current, correct URL for MacBros' Place. I don't know if he'll see me linking to him until Monday because he's currently partying with some friends on his last weekend off for a while. (Correction: Not a switch to self-hosted but a kind of server change).

Dave from the Real Estate Blog Lab got his own domain name (and changed his theme) since he commented on my blog but the old link forwards properly. Regardless, I edited the link to point to the new domain after reading about his WordPress 2.2 upgrade.
