Fishing for Ideas

Okay, I'm not fishing for ideas really. I'm fishing to see what kinds of topics you like to read about on my blog. If you haven't been through the archives at least once, you won't have any idea. So… comment if you can. I want to focus on what my readers like, not what I like. I thought about putting up a poll, but I think it would be too difficult to break everything down.

May 27th is my 1-year anniversary for the blog. I plan to revisit every post from the previous year on its anniversary date. I also plan to update the old posts to make sure they still have current information (like links to sites that may not exist anymore). I'm undecided if I want to start doing the "one month ago" routine. I think all or part of these revisits will freshen up the place a tad bit.

I've mentioned that I'm going to do sponsored posts soon. I'm signed up for one sponsored post company and thinking of signing up for two more. One way or another, I'll get PayPal linked in. I may have to use a different bank — my wife will be opening an account after she arrives back in the US, after May 20th. You should see sponsored links by tomorrow, if I can find the email message with the instructions!

Just to make this clear… I'm already earning enough to pay for hosting costs and everything above and beyond that is gravy to me. I'm using the monetization as more metrics to judge where and what I should place more emphasis on. I have a lot of patience and luxury items don't interest me. It's my wife that's impatient and that's why she's heading back to the US to work.

Also… I will not do a sponsored post unless I have had an experience with the product or service (or a like product or service) or if I know a great deal about it. I refuse to do what I see being done on some of the blogs I've skipped.

Blog Appreciation:

Randy Maugans at Surfing The Chaos looks at life in a different perspective than a lot of people and it makes his blog, as well as his podcasts, more interesting than just the average blogger. I highly recommend his material.

I'd like to read some more interesting, random tidbits and your perspectives from your life. Provided of course, you feel comfortable with it.

I think just letting us know how you get on with the sponsored ad would be good.

Who else have you signed up with?

Kontera and PayPerPost so far. I installed and then removed Kontera because of issues. I can't do PayPerPost yet, because of my PayPal issue. So, I'm in a waiting period.

Once, to get people to read my archives (no one read when I started my blog) I had a quiz about previous posts. If they responded with the right answers they got a special link prize.

What would I like to read on your blog? Well I haven't read as much as I would have liked (yet) but I like total random nonsense in general :-)

PPP doesn't review your posts for up to days at a time…so you may wait 5 days before your post is approved or disapproved. Personally, my experience with them has been negavtive. Also, what I've read about them as a company isn't positive either. However, I have tremedous respect for Chris @ Blog-op, and he uses them, so maybe I'm way off mark.

Personally though…I'd use Review Me. They approved my posts same day, within hours actually. Also, Patrick Gavin (Text-Link-Ads) owns RM…so I tend to want to do business with him rather than PPP.

That's my two cents for what it's worth.

Waiting is not an issue with me. Since I've been here in the Philippines, I've gotten used to waiting for everything. I'm dead in the water right now anyway until the PayPal issues get resolved. No sense in applying to anything until that gets fixed.

I'd like to read more about life in the Philippines. That's something I can't get from other blogs. (At least, other blogs I know about.)
