I spent the last 24 hours observing the one day blog silence out of respect for the families affected by gun violence around the world. When I committed myself to it, I didn't realize just how hard it would be.

Sure, I caught up on some things that I needed to get done… but in reality, I could have done them on any normal day. What really bugged me was that boredom set in real fast. You see, since my youngest son is all grown up and going to college, I don't have much of responsibility at home anymore. Oh, there are things that I'm responsible for, but they take up very little of my time.

I really didn't realize how much of my days are eaten up by the activities I do in conjunction with writing in my blog as well as maintaining communications and relationships. It's a lot… particularly since I don't have a real job anymore.

While I was bored and twiddling my fingers, I contemplated what niche I could target in on if I decided to create another blog. I thought about my wealth of experience before, during and after the military and I came up empty-handed. I may have a lot of experience but it's spread out so much that I really am a "jack of all trades and a master at none". I thought about the things that I enjoy doing that have nothing to do with prior professions and I still came up empty-handed. Blogging about blogging and niche marketing are not things I could do for any length of time. I could do an article here or there, but not a continual basis. Oh well, I guess I'm stuck with what I'm doing for the time being. Perhaps I'll discover something later on… but I doubt it.

If this day of silence thing becomes an annual event, count me out. I'll lose my sanity if I have to do again. I know it was self-imposed — I will not impose on myself again. I'll just have to find another way to commemorate the event.

Blog Appreciation:

As much as I dislike Microsoft's new Vista OS, I have to respect anyone who's willing to support it for the masses that prefer it. James at Geek in Paradise is one such person. Despite being very new to the blogging scene, he's jumped right in with both feet first. Take a look at what he has to offer.
