Blog Drive-Bys for 2007-04-29
I'm going to try a new approach for today's drive-bys. Instead of building the article up all day and releasing it all at once, I'm going to add links progressively. As each drive-by is completed, and I have a link to publish, I'll update this article and save it. Who knows? I might actually like doing it this way!

Thilak from BlogTalks asked an interesting question: What if FeedBurner starts charging? I didn't answer his question because I'm sure there are other services out there that work just as well as FeedBurner. I haven't looked for any yet, but I'm sure I could find at least one.
Adnan at Blogtrepreneur bragged (with every right to do so) about finally attaining a Google PageRank of 5. He pointed the way to a page where you can check your pagerank updates across all of Google's datacenters. I found another one last night via SmartWealthyRich when Jonathan-C. Phillips pointed the way via Nate Whitehill dot Com. No, I won't make you go chase the links down. The two pages where you can check your pagerank are RankAlert and Live PageRank. These are NOT predictions; these are actual changes taking place right now. By the way, mine is finally moving from 3 to 4!
Justin of The Sanctuary named his blogger of the week: Dying mans daily journal. I just read through a few pages. For lack of a better word, his perspective is "unique".
As if I don't get enough of my weekly fill of Clark Kent/Superman by watching Smallville, Tim and Ernie at Blue Beaver Bear had to go dig up stories from other places. There's more there than just that and I dare you to read it!
I love it when someone links to my blog for whatever reason they have for doing so. Why, just a few minutes ago Chris at Anything and Everything did me the honor. A few hours ago, Kelly Cho at Catch a Falling Star included me in her "I Feed Read You Train". I am truly honored. I'd better stop looking at my Technorati updates or I might end up mentioning more than 100 blogs before I'm through and I just don't have that kind of time today.
Apparently Crystal at Boobs, Injuries and Dr. Pepper really wants to win as the Best Humor Blog. I just checked and she's in the lead.
Ray at Bookstuff did a book review of the Deathstalker series. It's been a long time since I've read a book (almost two years). If I had the ability to get them, I would get these books. They look like they would take me a long time to read. Maybe I'll get them eventually as electronic books.
Mr. Tickles at Burned By The Man wrote a long rant against ALL cell phone users. Don't go there unless foul language doesn't bother you. I found it hilarious and it added to the emotion of the rant.
Samundra at Chewan Samundra Thulung posted a rant again remixed songs being done by rappers in Nepal. I'm with him on this one. Nothing turns my stomach quicker that to hear a rap-infested remake of a hit song. Does "Set Adrift On Memory Bliss" ring a bell? Yuck!
Charmell at CoachChar.com wrote about her efforts to rise earlier in the morning and "front-load" her day. I have to smile because I did that for 20 years in the military!

That is enough for today. After feeling the increased desire to gouge my eyes out because of some extremely awful web design and overly bright and colorful pages, I was finding it more and more difficult to move forward. I'll be doing this again the day after tomorrow. Tomorrow is a holiday for me and many bloggers around the world.

Hey, RT,
My blog has a PageRank of 5. At least google toolbar says so..
I don't know about any magic. I just happened to get linked from more higher ranked pages, I guess.
Getting linked by many will get you started, but you can't get to a 5 unless people with a 5 or above link to you. Food for thought.
I just wanted to mention that you can also check PR by installing the google toolbar as well. No need to go to a third party site.
I don't know how I got PR 5 myself. It's been like that way for ages now…
This is to see what your pagerank will be, not what it is now (in most cases). My plugin still says 3 and I would have no idea that it's moving to 4 by looking at it.
Yeah, but the live PR tool you linked also says mine is PR 5. Take a look if you don't believe me
Yes, I see. It just means that your PR isn't going up right now. If it were, then your toolbar probably wouldn't be accurate. It just happens to be accurate this time.
Ah, thanks for that tidbit.
I gave up trying to figure out pagerank years ago.
I am guessing it is pretty easy to get between 3 and 5 as that is what my tiny blog is.
Average 3.5 – mostly 3's with about a dozen 5's as well.
So what does it all mean?

It means you may end up as a 5 when it's all done. It means you have some quality links to your site. Don't look at me, I'm barely making it to 4.
Now it's a 4 average!

Hey, RT!
Thanks for the drive-by. I suppose military life is conducive to front-loading the day. I remember those Army commercials in the 80's, "We do more by 6 am than most people do all day!"
Then again, I'm not sure Air Force life (I was active duty for 4 years) is quite the same as Marines or my father's Army (he served from '74 – '96). As a matter of fact, when I was active duty, I almost NEVER had to do any mandatory Physical Training (PT). In fact, I think I did more PT as a reservist than I did on active duty.
However, as a medical lab technician at the base hospital (Mountain Home, Idaho) I was used to getting up early and collecting specimens from the patients before 6am.
What's different about front-loading my day as a civilian is that I'm choosing to be disciplined for the sake of personal effectiveness and growth. When I was military, I chose to front-load my day to prevent some form of nonjudicial punishment from my commander.
To me it feels different, ya know?
I enjoy your blogging style and content. I'll be back!

Hey Char,
78 to 98 for me… and yeah, the marines is a totally different animal. I was up at 5:30 am every day whether I needed to be or not. I usually had a full workout, shower and breakfast by 7:30 am when I'd be at work.
hari, do you think that being linked from a PR8 site, such as LQ might have done it for you? I know that I see a lot of link backs from LQ to mine.
Could be. Yeah, I was an active member there and I had my link in the signature there.
I know. You became an active member a few months after I did and your post count soared, as you helped everyone in sight! The funny thing is that you were a newb as well. What made you different is that you were willing to RTFM before asking a question. LOL.
True, Corey. I don't hang out much there nowadays.
Hi – thanks for the drive by. I definitely recommend the Deathstalker series – they are a lot of fun. And this is my second drive by – 2 blogs you see
