Jumping Off The Technorati Favorites Train

On April 17, 2007, I published my version of the Technorati Favorites Exchange. Six days later, I noticed that I was Almost in the Top 100 Favorited Blogs on Technorati. All I needed at the time was 13 more people to favorite my blog and my blog would bump out number 100 which had 137 people favoriting it.

I gained 37 new people favoriting my blog and I still have to get 7 more to bump number 100 out. Why? It's because those above me are gaining people favoriting them too. The goal post keeps rising.

It doesn't really matter to me whether I make it into the top 100 or not. That's why, as of today, I'm jumping off that train and not worrying about it. I will continue to honor reciprocations and linking the blogs concerned, but I'm not going to actively pursue it. My last offer is the same offer as before except that my new favorites will be added to this post.

To those that are still actively pursuing what I see as an unattainable goal, I wish you the best of luck.

I agree. With all the people taking part, the goal is harder to hit. It's a bit comical actually. The idea is meant to help people, but with the experiment being saturated now, it ends up being counterproductive. In all fairness, I did see my rank jump considerably, but I doubt I'll hit the top 100 any time soon. Ah well you never know until you try, and I'm not ready to jump off the train just yet. Oh and thanks for faving me.

Yeah, the stats only bloat your ranks… they aren't real stats.

Too right.

I added Dosh Dosh (who started the reciprocal favorites thing off) and one other favourite (the first person who asked me specifically to do so, and I liked his blog anyway), but that's all.

To be honest, I'd been wondering what value there would be for me in doing this, as occasionally I view my Technorati favourites just to see what's new on these blogs. That capability was likely to disappear if I ended up favouriting everyone who requested it.
