I’m Back!

I'm Back!

After 12 hours of hate and discontent on my part, the blog is back online at its new location in the Philippines. The worst part about it was that the DNS propagated everywhere but here first, so I couldn't access it to restore it.

The second worst part is that this host uses PHP5 whereas the old host used PHP4. Some things broke. I fixed some and removed others. I'll slowly work on it to get it running smooth again. Hopefully, it won't affect you in any way.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed, just in case.

I held off on the Technorati Favorites Exchange until I moved hosts. I'll be addressing it in my next post.

You could have sorted it all out so that there was minimal down time. I guess you'll know for next time.

Good that you're on a more reliable service anyway.

I tried, but the DNS propagation happened a lot faster in the rest of the world than it here. The files were all there, but I needed to transfer the database and couldn't do that until the domain resolved for me. There's always more to it, but I can't get into it. There were 3 or 4 things that I couldn't prevent, but oh well, it's all resolved now.

Yeah, that's the important thing. As long as it's good now and you don't have the same issue, things are looking up.

It's cool RT, at least your new host had a sensible error message.

Your blog's way faster now, and by all accounts WP will be on PHP5 by the end of the year so you're ahead of the game…

RT, here's a trick.

Even if the DNS doesn't propagate, you could have accessed your new server using the IP address of the new server.

Just wanted to let you know in case you didn't know this before.

I thought of that, but I didn't have the IP address in the setup instructions. I asked for it and got the response about the time I was already done.

Glad you are moved! I visited by chance last night in the interim and had a "wtf" moment as I tried hopelessly to find where I had made a typo in your domain name. Then some part of my brain toward the back reminded the rest of me how unsatisfied you had been with your host and I figured it out. I can tell you now, it loads a hell of a lot faster.
