Yes, there is a method to my madness. Why did I choose "untwistedvortex.com" as my domain name? I thought about it long and hard before I chose it because I wanted it to reflect what happened to me. Even after I chose it, it dawned on me that I had an instant marketing tool. I'll get back to that in a moment.
If you've taken the time to read my About page, you'll know where I am and why I'm here. If you've taken the time to read my first blog entry, my Welcome message, you'll know what my definition of an "untwisted vortex" is. I think I made a pretty good choice for a domain name. I chose it for the "com" top level domain because of what used to happen when you typed just "untwistedvortex" in your browser's address bar. I don't know what changed for me, but it used to tack on ".com" and go straight to my website. I just did it in both Firefox and Internet Explorer. My website came up as the first thing in the search results. Right now, try it for yourself and see what happens.
What about this instant marketing tool? When I write a script or do something unusual, I tack UV in front of it. UV for Untwisted Vortex, naturally. But what do you see on any decent pair of sunglasses (are they still called that?) you buy or forget to remove the sticker from? The UV rating. UV for ultraviolet. So, if you've been to my website before, or you've seen one of my scripts or a few references here and there, and you're getting a new pair of sunglasses, the UV rating on it will remind you of my website. Get it?
If you bought any of that, you're more gullible than I could ever expect. What really happened is that me and my son bandied a few words back and forth for about an hour before I picked the domain name. Seriously, that's the real truth.
