I know, another boring headline. A few days ago, I mentioned How To Make 100 Dollars Per Year Blogging and emphasized writing on a regular basis to obtain that goal. At the time I wrote that, I didn't know how close I was to making $100 in a single month. That happened today.
While looking through all of my statistics, Google Analytics, and my Alexa Traffic Details, I noticed something that made me pause for thought. It's no secret that I got slammed by the "Digg Effect" a few days ago. Anyway, during that Digg slam, the average number of page views per visitor dropped to less than two. Since that day, the average number of page views per visitor has increased to almost six. That's a BIG difference. It indicates, to me, that sites like Digg may bring a lot of traffic, but it isn't quality traffic. I actually earned about a third of the $100 from Digg (which surprised me), but it took more than 17,000 visitors to do it. If you calculate it, Digg traffic is abysmal compared to normal, every day traffic.
The secret to getting good, quality traffic is to provide a lot of good, quality content. There's nothing wrong with "throwaway" posts, as long as they aren't the "meat" of your blog. I mentioned back in early February that Porn Sells, but I should have said "Sex Brings Visitors". Of course, I didn't exactly know that at the time. I learned by looking through my logs, that a single YouTube video is drawing visitors to my blog every single day. Can you guess which one? The point is that it was pretty much a "throwaway" post.
I don't know if April will be a repeat performance or not, but I'm not too concerned about it. I know that it's all up to me, what I write about, and how often I write.
