Technology YOU Can't Live Without

This post is directed at people younger than I, many much younger. I'm only going to list things that I lived without at some time during my 46 years of age and I'm only going to list those things that I can remember. If they're already obsolete, I won't bother to list them. Here we go and in no particular order:

  • Television remote control
  • Cordless telephone
  • Cell phone
  • Microwave oven
  • Automatic drip coffee
  • DVD player
  • Computer
  • Internet
  • Color television
  • Video game console
  • Frost-free refrigerator
  • Cable television
  • Satellite radio
  • Automatic washing machine
  • Automatic clothes dryer
  • PDA
  • Mp3 player
  • Camcorder
  • Digital Camera
  • Printer
  • Copier
  • Scanner
  • Blender
  • Electric Mixer
  • Rice Cooker
  • Refrigerated water dispenser
  • CD player

I could go on, but I won't. Many of these things existed while I was young but were not affordable to the average family. If you're young, you probably can't imagine what life would be like without all of these advances. In my opinion, life was simpler and more fun.

Edit: Are there any items on the list that I failed to mention and you would like to elaborate on? Feel free to add them to the comments. The base date I used was the year of my birth, 1960. Anything prior is digging too far back.

Hello! I still live quite happily without a few of these appliances… Must admit that it's only a few! (43, and rising!)

I was going to suggest adding the VCR to the list but then realised that they are not even around much any more. Second realisation – you did't ask for additional items for the list. I couldn't live without my cable tv and remote control.

  3. I live without about half right now. But it's not by choice.

Coach, you're right. I didn't ask. I'll fix the post to ask the question. Cable TV is on the list. Cable remote is not, although it should be.

I'm going to wait until there's a significant amount of comments and republish the list if it's so warranted.

You forgot the most important one. The DVR.

I've never found a rice cooker to be something that I can never live without. But hey, it might be useful some time :P

  6. I can't live without my mobile phone, computer, cordless phone, television (and its remote control), digital camera, and most of all, I can't live without internet! I spend most of my time using the internet. I shop online, I work online and I communicate with friends and family online…ahhh how easy life is with internet.

I can't live without my mp3 player, phone, PS3, PSP, TV and most importantly my computer! My PS3's blu-ray is busted and I am having a hard time NOT playing my favorite Call of Duty 4. Its like a drug :(
