My Blog's New Niche

I want to thank TheGoodBlogs for putting my blog in the category of "Life". You see, I don't have a niche and come to think of it, I don't want one. I think life is the BEST category my blog could possibly be in. There's way too much going on and in way too many directions for me to focus on something specific every single day. [Note: This all changed in 2008.]

I know a few people that separate their lives by having multiple blogs. While I respect their choices, I am unlikely to ever follow suit. Let's play the analogy game. [Note: As of 2008, I have multiple blogs.]

Let's say you have 4 henhouses in the barnyard but only one rooster. When it's time for the rooster to take care of business, he's probably excited before he goes into henhouse #1. By the time he gets to henhouse #2, he's tired but he knows he's got some work to do. When he gets to henhouse #3, the poor rooster is extremely tired but does his duty. When he gets to the final henhouse, #4, he's too tired and too uninterested to even go inside. [Note: That's where I am now, tired and uninterested.]

My contention is that if you have multiple blogs, one or more of them will suffer from a lack of attention. You're probably okay, though, if you've monetized your blogs and keep them up to date by running them like mini-businesses. If your blogs aren't monetized, I'm afraid to see what happens when you're too tired and uninterested to work on one or more of them.

So… at the end of the day, I'm saying I prefer to use the shotgun effect with a single blog instead of trying to fit my life into separate blogs. I'm not saying anyone else is wrong. I just want you to think about it.

Back to the chickens. You sure you aren't a farmer? ;)

I think it really depends on the person. If someone is motivated and can run multiple websites or blogs, then power to them. There's really nothing wrong with it even if they're not monetized.

However if they do have a lack of motivation or lack of drive to pay the required attention to make each one succeed, then i'd agree with you that somewhere along the line one or more of their sites or blogs will suffer as a result.

Definitely if each or most of their sites are run as a business it makes it different than a few personal sites that you update here are there. The motivation of income is there and gives the drive to keep each income stream moving forwards so that you can put food on the table.

You knew that I'd have to agree and say that every one else is wrong!

    You're such a suck up! :-)

No Mick, I am not a farmer. There are, however, a lot of animals in this neck of the woods. When I write analogies, I tend to use what's readily available.

Don't get me wrong. I was comparing what I prefer as opposed to what others prefer. At the end of a long day (and night) sometimes I can come across as abrasive and I certainly don't intend to do that.

Hey RT, i didn't find you to be abrasive at all. I was just sharing my opinion on the matter, as you shared yours. I respect the right to have an opinion.

Your use of farm animals for analogies is comical, however well used. :)
