A few days ago, I mentioned that the WordPress Global Translator Plugin has caused the number of my readers who use the languages of French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Arabic to increase tremendously. There is another plugin for WordPress that I think is just as necessary.
The Google Sitemap Generator (This link may change due to this version being in beta) will create a sitemap for your blog. Every time you post a new article, the plugin will regenerate the sitemap and then ping Google to let them know that your sitemap is updated.
I installed this a couple of days after the other plugin. The next day, I started getting more and more frequent searches via Google. Now when I post a new article, the Googlebots come to index my blog within minutes. I was really surprised at the effectiveness of this simple plugin. I checked Google Analytics to confirm it — these two plugins combined are responsible for a third of all my visitors. I can expect it to increase to a half or even more as time progresses.
