I Will Promote Your Blog. No Kidding.

If you visit and do one of two things, I will respond.

1) Send me email via the contact form.
2) Leave me a message in a comment.

If you have a really good blog article, tell me about it. I have absolutely no problem taking the time out of my not-so-hectic schedule to promote a particular blog article. Having said that, I will not promote garbage. Don't expect me to.

If you look below, you'll see that I added something to the comment area:

"If you add my blog as a favorite on Technorati, I will add your blog. If you add my blog to your blogroll, I will add your blog. It's that simple. If you leave a link to your website below (either in the form or in your comments), it will appear as a link to your website on Technorati. I have disabled the 'nofollow' tag."

Links/backlinks to your blog is the best and fastest way to rise in search engines and other services. Technorati is one such service and it's a good measure of your popularity as well. I have absolutely no problem with your self-promotion on my blog.

Edit: I think some people are misunderstanding me. I'm not talking about just here.

Update 2007-07-09: I didn't put that text back in the comment section when I installed threaded comments. I don't think people want to read that every time they visit and comment.

I've been quietly subscribing to any commenters/emailers for quite some time now, and it's worked out rather well. I also have my bloglines blogroll displayed on my site, helping increase rankings all around (though I recently switched to Google Reader, so I'm gonna have to figure out how to deal with that).

I do question whether advertising this fact is a good idea though… I'd worry that all sorts of kooks will come out of the woodwork, but maybe that's just me

Anyway, good luck with this, be sure to let us know how it works out.

I have been using nofollow on all my blogs for ages, it just shows respect for the people who are the lifeblood of blogging, the community that builds around a blog.

I have studied spam being sent to my blogs, and none of it is targeted because there isn't nofollow on the comments.
Most spam in fact is written using BBCode for the links.

Also most human commenters don't go looking for places to comment to get links, otherwise I would have had a lot more comments on places like my wpplugins or disclosure policy plugin site.

But I do gain comments by mentioning certain terms, including things like nofollow and dofollow, but many of those become subscribers.
That isn't necessarily a bad thing, though some would look on that as being spam because it is promotional.

A clear comments policy is the best way to handle manual spam, and to act on it by deleting comments or links.

quite an interesting deal you got here. I've added you to my blogroll as I find your site quite informative and direct. I'm still in the process of learning more of website design though as I am into the Accounting profession and I'm trying it out on blogging. I'll do what I can, Dave. I even added your blog to my review list. It'll probably be a week or so before I get to it. In the meantime, you need to work on the layout just a little. You have 2 Google Ad blocks at the top of the page and you might want to reconsider having PayPerPost ads on your blog. Maybe you didn't hear about the PPP smackdown that Google did on all the blogs (including mine).
