A Simple Question for the Anti-Bush Crowd

I have a simple question for the anti-Bush crowd who believe he lied, etc. I've been sitting on the fence on this issue since the start of the war. I do not have all the facts and of course, neither do you. My question does not deal with lies or deception.

If Bush and company had been right about Iraq all along, but decided not to invade Iraq, what position would the US be in now, almost four years later?

Please limit your opinions to answers to the question. Comments outside that scope will be summarily deleted.

I am not a fan of Nation building, but the economy of the US has prospered from the war. If we didn't go, our economy would probably be very crappy.

What do you think Bush's popularity would be today if we didn't invade Iraq and additional terrorist attacks occurred on US soil? I don't really see where Bush had much of a choice. The real question is can Bush and the Republicans keep enough energy behind the invasion effort to keep forces there keeping an eye (and ear) on things, keeping the home front relatively safe?

Bush isn't popular right now and I don't think he cares. A lot of people forget what he said when the war on terror started. Finishing what you started doesn't always make you popular.
