Dexter is a Showtime original series about a serial killer that only kills bad people, people who are untouchable by, or invisible to, law enforcement. The character works as a blood splatter specialist in a police department.
The first season was based on the novel, "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" by Jeff Lindsay. I have not had the pleasure of reading it. Of course, I probably never will now that I'm not in the US. The second season will be based on the novel, "Dearly Devoted Dexter", again by Jeff Lindsay.
A humorous twist to all this is that in one of the episodes prior to season 1, episode 9, Dexter sent an open message via craigslist in the florida/miami/personal/missed connections area:
Dear Ken,
I'm in pieces. Why the cold shoulder?
Love,
Barbie
And then the killer he was addressing it to (now known as Rudy) replied:
Dear Barbie,
Don't worry, we'll meet soon. One day we'll share a cold one.
Love,
Ken
I was curious to see if the messages were REALLY posted to craigslist. I found both messages there. Since it's highly unlikely that either of the messages were actually posted for the series, some overzealous fans probably did it. I guess the series developed a devoted following.
Dexter stars Michael C. Hall, Julie Benz, Jennifer Carpenter, Erik King, Lauren Vélez, David Zayas, James Rema and more. Here's the season 1 intro:
