I was disappointed in Superman Returns. The special effects were very good, but the plot was weak and unentertaining. I found myself not caring about the characters or the results of the mayhem.
Brandon Routh didn't adequately fill the role of Clark Kent/Superman. He just didn't have the screen presence. Kate Bosworth didn't have the pizazz to play Lois Lane. The only actor that I enjoyed in his role was Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor. Kevin did an excellent job of displaying the evil nature of Lex.
This movie was supposed to be a continuation of the original Superman movies (1-4). Those movies had class, style, and humor mixed with generous doses of hard-hitting action. This movie had none of the charming qualities of the first four. You'd think they'd continue with the same kind of movie, for continuity's sake. If not, they should have just started over like they did with Batman.
The kid with powers like Superman, with no back story as to where the kid came from, as well as Superman being able to push an island with Kryptonite into space without losing his powers, defies explanation. I'm a big Superman fan, but I was scratching my head over those two things.
If you haven't seen this movie, don't waste your time. It wasn't worth the 2+ hours I spent watching it. As much as I wanted to like this movie, I just couldn't.
